Steelwork contractor is first SCCS client to achieve certification

Yorkshire-based steelwork contractor Elland Steel Structures is the first Steel Construction Certification Scheme (SCCS) client to achieve certification to BS EN ISO 3834:2005 – Quality management in the field of welding.

“Welding is recognised as a special process by a number of harmonised standards, due to the difficulties in testing welds after production. Therefore, a sound welding management system in accordance with BS EN 3834 is essential if the quality of the product is to be built into the weld before, during and after welding,” said Elland Steel Structures Chairman and Managing Director Mark Denham.

“We are proud to be the first company to be externally audited by the SCCS and further congratulate them on their new capability to certify welding management systems to BS EN 3834.”

The SCCS is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the British Constructional Steelwork Association. It was established in the early 1980s to provide quality management certification for steelwork contracting organisations.

SCCS now offers a wide range of certification and monitoring services for the structural steelwork sector, including integrated or separate UKAS accredited Quality management systems, Environmental and Health & Safety management systems, Factory Production Control systems and selected National Highways Sector Schemes.
