How does SCCS operate?

SCCS operates with impartiality, competence, responsibility, openness, confidentiality and is responsive to complaints. Policies and procedures under which SCCS operates, and the administration of them, are non-discriminatory and not used to impede or inhibit access by applicants, other than as provided for in the relevant International Standards.

SCCS makes its services accessible to all applicants whose activities fall within the scope of its operations.

Access to the certification process is not conditional upon the size of the client or membership of any association or group, nor shall certification be conditional upon the number of certifications already issued.

There are no undue financial or other conditions.

SCCS provides certification services with impartiality and recognises potentiality threats to impartiality such as:

  • Self interest threats - personnel acting in their own interest such as financial self interest
  • Self review threats - personnel reviewing work done by themselves such as auditing management systems of a client to whom consultancy has also been provided
  • Familiarity threats - personnel becoming too familiar with other persons instead of seeking audit evidence
  • Intimidation threats - personnel being coerced openly or secretively
  • Financial threats – clients paying for certification

To counteract these threats, the decisions of SCCS are based on objective evidence of conformity obtained by SCCS, without the influence of other interests or parties.
